Fri 30 Oct – Mon 2 Nov 2009 (The weekend before Melbourne Cup)
2009 marks the 30th Anniversary of the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival. In
1979 a small number of Jazz enthusiasts got together and formed the Mildura River
City Jazz Club who in turn held the Mildura Jamboree later that year. The Festival
has grown over the years and incorporated regional strength to be renamed in
the 90's as the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival.
From the very first event, the Mildura Jazz Food and Wine Festival has developed
a reputation for quality. The 2009 30th Anniversary Jazz Food and Wine Festival
is again geared to ensure patrons enjoy top quality jazz with a band line up
that includes festival favorites, popular mainstream, traditional regulars, swing
and a touch of progressive jazz. A range of venues, including wineries, pubs,
clubs, malls, city streets and restaurants, will provide a meeting place for
jazz enthusiasts to enjoy the spring climate and hours of entertainment.
Another feature of the festival will be a special performance by the winner of
this years ARAIA’s best jazz composition. Joe Chindamo
will perform on Friday 30 October at the Mildura Arts Centre where he will present an original
work inspired by the Art Centres treasured painting the Bathing Nude Girl by
Edgar Degas.
30th Anniversary – PRIMED for Jazz Street
Party – Saturday 31 October
To celebrate
the 30th Anniversary the Festival committee invites jazz enthusiasts to a free
street party on Saturday 31 October. Sponsored by Prime TV this free event will
provide non stop jazz entertainment on two stages in the Mildura City Heart from
5pm to 10.30pm. This is a first for the Festival and with Bands such as E-Type
Jazz, Gail Kingston and Hot Food Jazz, The Maryborough Traditional Jazz ensemble
and Hot B Hines (to name just a few), combined with alfresco dinning, this event
provides a celebration of a rich history of one of the longest running Jazz festivals
in Australia.
November in Mildura is a beautiful time of the year and we invite you to enjoy
our hospitality, beautiful river locations, along with our regional food and
wine celebrating 30 years of Jazz in Mildura. |
